Athens was established in 1805 and the city-county government identifies dozens of nationally registered resources. Its Historic Preservation Commission inventories resources, recommends designations, and reviews Certificate of Appropriateness applications, so exterior work in designated areas may need an added review step.

Citywide context cannot establish a parcel’s flood zone, historic designation, stream buffer, permit requirements, soil conditions, or concealed construction. Verify each of those with Athens-Clarke County and with whichever provider you select, before the first day of work.
